Natural ways to Exfoliate your skin at home

Regular exfoliation is key to healthy glowing skin. Exfoliation removes the unwanted dead cells and debris from your skin and encourages clean, new and better looking skin. Exfoliation helps keep pores clear and is essential to keep black spots and white heads at bay. Exfoliation also helps remove excess oil from oily skin keeping it clean and discourages clogging. It also helps remove dullness and gives you a bright and beautiful skin. But be sure not to exfoliate too much. Once or twice a week depending on your skin type should be more than enough.

Here are some simple ways to naturally exfoliate your skin at home:
Facial Scrubs:
  • Honey facial Scrub: Apply honey evenly on face and scrub gently. Leave on for 10 minutes and wet your palm and scrub on for a few more minutes and wash off. Honey's antibacterial property helps acne prone skin and leaves your skin soft and looking and feeling great.
  • Milk Scrub: Apply milk evenly on skin. Lactic acid in milk acts as a natural exfoliant leaving you with a clean skin. It also helps remove some tan from sun damage and lightens your skin.
  • Oatmeal scrub: Oatmeal is only of nature's wonder for skin. It helps exfoliate and at the same time moisturize your skin. This can be used for all kinds of skin types and works wonders on your skin. There are several ways to make a oatmeal scrub for your face. Here are a few:
    • Slightly grind oats to get a coarse meal. Mix this with milk and apply evenly all over the face. Start scrubbing your skin in circular motion. Once you are done leave it on your face for a few minutes and wash off with warm water. The lactic acid in milk also helps exfoliate and remove all dirt and debris from the skin. The oatmeal facial scrub removes all the dead cells and gives you a clean and youthful looking skin.
    • Grind together almonds and oatmeal and mix it with yogurt and use as a facial scrub.
    • Mix ground oatmeal with lemon juice and use as facial scrub
    • Mix together ground oatmeal and honey and use as facial scrub. The antibacterial property of honey also helps acne prone skin.
    • Mix an egg white with oatmeal powder and apply on your face and start scrubbing. Leave it for 15-20 minutes till it dries out. Slightly spray warm water and scrub again. Then wash off with lukewarm water. This will remove dullness and give a new glow to your face.
    • Wheat Germ Scrub: Combine together wheat germ and honey to form a excellent facial scrub
    • Almond Scrub: Add honey and lemon juice to ground almond and use as a scrub to get glowing and flawless skin.
    • Mung Dal Scrub: Grind Mung Dal (found in most Indian and Chinese grocery stores) and add a pinch of turmeric powder. Take a spoonful of this powder and mix it with milk and use it as scrub to remove excessive oiliness from skin and have a smooth clear skin.
    • Channa Flour Scrub: To remove dirt from face, make a paste of cold milk and Channa flour (found in most Indian grocery stores). Apply on face and let it dry. After it dries, wet with some water and scrub gently. Rinse off with warm water.

    Body Scrubs:
    • Sugar Scrub:
      • Mix together sugar and olive oil to form an excellent body scrub. Use this to scrub down your whole body focusing on the dry areas like elbows, knees and foot for smooth youthful skin. Doing this once a month works wonders on your skin.
      • Mix together lemon juice, honey and sugar to get an excellent body scrub. It is good for acne prone skin and helps remove blackheads.
    • Salt Scrub: In the same way mix together salt and olive oil to exfoliate your whole body.
    • Coffee Scrub: Combine together ground coffee and buttermilk to make a excellent body scrub
    • Lemon Scrub: Cut lemon in half. Add a couple of teaspoons of salt to a bowl. Dip the lemon in salt and rub on your body for a good exfoliation.

    Tips on exfoliating:
    • Always remember to rub gently on your skin while exfoliating. Never rub vigorously. It can damage your skin.
    • Even though most natural products are mild on your skin it is a good idea to test your scrubs on a small area of your skin for sensitiveness and irritations before applying to whole face or body.
